Cramming for the Apocalypse
is a journey about managing climate grief and taking climate action through the lens of disaster preparedness.
This project began with Elizabeth Doerr’s anxiety around the oncoming—or rather, currently-in-progress—climate apocalypse. Her existential worry came from the idea that we were passing on a thoroughly Effed planet to her son and his peers. She also realized how unprepared she and her family were for the oncoming “storm.” As she dug into her grief as well as assessed her unpreparedness, she discovered there were untapped connections between preparedness and climate action. This Cramming for the Apocalypse project is a way to connect those two elements and a means to find our own role in creating a healthier and more just planet for all.
Cramming for the Apocalypse is many things. It’s a book project, it’s a newsletter, it’s a podcast, but first and foremost it’s a means to create community around climate action and preparedness.
